Root canal treatment is often the last chance we have to save a tooth before extraction. The procedure consists in devitalizing the tooth, this means the pulp (nerve and blood vessels) is extracted all the way down to the roots and then replaced with an inert material. The endodontically treated tooth is dead but remains in place. This tooth is then restored with a filling or a crown.
